Design Porn: Wholesome Bling

I'm in the market for a new watch. I have about a million (actual number may vary), ranging from nice leather-strapped ones to cheapy, garish plastic ones. I love them all, but as soon as the battery goes, my mind turns to all the wonderful watches I could treat myself to in the eight months it takes me to go into town and get a new battery (clarification: it takes that long because I'm a lazy git, not because of a really dodgy local bus service - although that exists too).

I think I may have found the watch I want to replace all my perfectly good watches. Wholesome Bling's fly watch has a silk strap that winds around your wrist in that nonchalant way that probably takes ages to get right (although there is a handy how-to on the site), but looks so pretty. WANT.

I'm keen on this yellow jungle watch, too. The fabric is designed by artist Paz Lopez, and, as with all Wholesome Bling watches, the straps are hand-stitched in East London (the rest of the watches are put together there too, it's just we're talking about fabric now, so whatever).

Oh, but flowers. Can I have everything, please?

Each fabric strap comes in a small- or large-face design. I think I prefer the small, but here's one of the large ones for your consideration. I love this pale blue bird print, though.

Here's what both sizes look like on a real human wrist. I still prefer the small one.

The watches come neatly packaged in a jam jar! This peacock design has sold out, so I've only shown you a tiny glimpse so you don't get your hopes up.

Small watches are £22, large are £24. The straps, which are mostly cotton but sometimes silk, are hand-washable. I think I've decided on the fly design... which would you choose?

  1. Oooh I do like these. I actually think I prefer the large ones (although my wrists are tiny and skinny, I think I'd have to wear a smaller one). Liberty do fabric watch straps too:

  2. I do love the look but I do so need numbers on my watches so that I can tell the time rather than guessing.

  4. I love the bird one. I don't need a new watch (need to get my current one fixed first!) but they are beautiful.

  5. I need a new watch, I don't really like wearing them on my wrist so usually go for a necklace one (though trying to find a nice one is a struggle) but I don't mind wearing my festival wristbands so these look like the answer!
